In the world of Alcia, every individual bears a numerical mark known as a Count, inscribed directly onto their body. This ever-changing figure reflects the choices and actions that define a person's life, rising or falling in accordance with their deeds. The stakes tied to this system are absolute: when a person's Count reaches zero, they are swallowed by a terrifying void called the Abyss, vanishing from existence forever. This grim fate befalls Hina’s mother, whose number finally dwindles to nothing before she is dragged into the unknown abyss. In her final moments, however, she leaves her daughter with a crucial directive rather than despair. She urges Hina to seek out a legendary hero from a devastating historical conflict known as the Waste War—a mythical warrior revered as the Ace. Driven by grief and unwavering determination, Hina embarks on an arduous journey across a world governed by ruthless numbers. Her quest to find the fabled Ace becomes not only a mission born of a dying wish but a struggle against the very rules that dictate life and death in Alcia.
