Kimi ga Ichiban Soba ni Iru

Kimi ga Ichiban Soba ni Iru is a Boys' Love anthology featuring six distinct short stories centered on romance, rivalry, and unexpected connections. The titular story follows Minato and Ozumi, lifelong best friends and neighbors whose comfortable dynamic begins to shift when Ozumi starts feeling restless in Minato's absence. Complicating matters further, an attractive older man takes an interest in Ozumi, while a side story explores the tension of Ozumi facing unwanted advances from strangers and wondering why his usually protective friend has suddenly grown distant. The remaining tales explore equally compelling romantic dilemmas across varied settings. In "Forbidden," a rainy day spent indoors becomes the backdrop for an intimate fourteen-page encounter, while "Excellence" follows a meticulous student obsessed with miniature models who discovers entirely new interests through online shopping. "Rivalry" examines the bitter frustration of a dedicated academic overachiever who cannot understand how his lazy, boisterous roommate consistently outperforms him on exams. Finally, "Last Chance" tells the emotional story of a young man who falls in love at first sight only to face rejection after confessing. Determined not to give up, he seeks one final opportunity to reveal his true feelings to Shidou, hoping that a chance encounter at a hot spring might change everything.
