Katsuben Ouji no Hanayome-san

Set during Japan’s Taisho era, a period when cinema was still known as katsudo shashin, or "moving pictures," the story follows a young woman named Hanae. She is engaged to marry into the family of Koushiro, a man eight years her senior. While their arrangement appears to be a traditional union, Koushiro carries a secret identity that extends far beyond his quiet family life. He is, in fact, Utsutsubashi Kousei, the most celebrated and sought-after benshi of his generation—a master narrator who breathes life into silent films for captivated audiences across the country. As Hanae steps into her new role as the bride of this beloved showman, she must navigate the complexities of married life alongside a husband whose public fame casts a long shadow over their private world. The contrast between the reserved man she agreed to marry and the charismatic performer adored by countless fans creates a unique dynamic within their household. Through the charm of early twentieth-century Japan, their journey unfolds as a tender and innocent romance, exploring how two people bridged by an age gap learn to understand one another and build a genuine, heartfelt bond.
