Macross: Do You Remember Love?

In A.D. 2009, humanity is embroiled in a three-way conflict against the Zentraedi and Meltrandi, races of giant humanoid aliens. Following an accidental space fold that transported the fortress Macross and a portion of South Atalia Island to the outer Solar System, the vessel is making its long journey back to Earth. During a minor engagement with Zentraedi forces, young pilot Hikaru Ichijo rescues idol singer Lynn Minmay, and the two form a bond while stranded deep within the ship. Upon their return to Macross City, however, Minmay is captured by the enemy, leaving Hikaru and officer Misa Hayase to return to Earth alone, where they witness the devastating aftermath of their civilization’s destruction. Ultimately, the fate of the war rests upon an ancient song and Minmay’s voice.
