Stricken by illness in his youth, Nitaroh loses his sight. He comes into possession of the shamisen that once belonged to his mother and receives his earliest instruction from a blind itinerant musician. With the support of both old companions and new acquaintances, he gradually makes his way along the road that leads to his destined calling: the founding of the Tsugaru school of shamisen performance.
