Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen

To be a pervert is to truly understand the shape of one’s own desires, tracing their contours with the careful precision of a blind man mapping the form of a vase. In early 20th-century Paris, Colette works in a brothel, trapped in an occupation from which she cannot escape. Day after day, she and her fellow workers support one another while catering to the whims of their clients. Amidst this difficult existence, her encounters with Leon offer a singular source of hope, yet Colette remains uncertain whether his feelings for her are genuine. This story explores the resilience of women within their constrained lives and lays bare the raw desires of the so-called “amorous gentlemen,” inviting readers into a bewitching world of love and longing.
