Suzuki Aoba is a morose and socially isolated high schooler who, despite occasionally being subjected to roughhousing at the hands of his classmate Iwase Sannosuke, considers his school life tolerable. His routine is interrupted when Akasawa Kenshin—a boy from the neighboring class and a fast-rising prodigy in the MMA world—steps in to rescue him from one such scuffle. When Aoba admits he has no particular ambition, Kenshin openly questions whether that leaves him feeling hollow, a remark that Aoba takes poorly. In response, he resolves to land a single punch on Kenshin someday. To turn that vow into reality, Aoba joins Shark Gym, a rundown training facility overseen by the lackadaisical Kanenari Tokiwa.
