Jirai nandesu ka? Chihara-san

The start of a new semester brings the usual shuffle of unfamiliar faces, but for one student, the most intriguing presence is the girl who takes the seat beside him. She is Chihara—a name whispered with a mixture of fascination and caution throughout the hallways. To her peers, she is the archetypal "landmine" girl: outwardly charming and disarmingly cute, yet rumored to harbor a volatile, unpredictable nature that can detonate without warning, leaving emotional wreckage in its wake. The label clings to her like a shadow, coloring every interaction and reinforcing the wary distance others maintain. Yet, as the days pass and the protagonist finds himself drawn into ordinary, unguarded moments with Chihara, the glaring disconnect between rumor and reality becomes impossible to ignore. Her smiles seem genuine, her quirks endearing rather than menacing, and her conversations carry none of the hidden tripwires that the gossip suggests. He begins to wonder if he is simply naive, or if the collective judgment of the student body has been too hasty. This growing uncertainty forces him to confront a deeper, more unsettling question: Is Chihara-san truly the dangerous figure everyone believes her to be, or is she merely a girl trapped beneath a cruel label, her true self obscured by the very fear she inspires? Navigating the fragile line between perception and truth, he must decide whether to trust the warnings of the crowd or to risk getting close enough to find out for himself.
