Slow Loop

For Hiyori, the sea has always been a place of solace—a living connection to her late father, who first taught her to cast a line and read the tides. Seeking a moment of quiet refuge before a daunting family dinner, she heads out to the water, hoping to steady her nerves. But solitude proves fleeting when she crosses paths with another girl her age, Koharu. What begins as an accidental encounter soon deepens into an impromptu afternoon of fishing side by side and cooking their catch together, two strangers slowly warming to each other's company through the simple rhythm of the shore. As the sun begins to dip, Koharu gently pries into why Hiyori seemed so withdrawn that day, and learns the truth: Hiyori is dreading the evening ahead, when she must meet her new stepfamily for the first time. The irony lands like a splash of cold seawater when Koharu confesses that she, too, is slated to meet her own new family that very night. A flicker of recognition passes between them, and Hiyori's quiet murmur says it all—this is no mere coincidence. Bound by fate's surprising twist, the two girls discover that their separate paths are actually converging into one household. Now, as newly minted stepsisters, Hiyori and Koharu must navigate the uncharted waters of blended family life, learning not only how to share a home, but also how to turn an accidental meeting into the foundation of an unbreakable bond—one cast, one meal, and one gentle wave at a time.
