The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru

Set against the blood-soaked backdrop of Japan's Sengoku era, this dark saga begins with an unthinkable act of betrayal. A man consumed by ambition bargains away his own newborn son to a pack of ravenous devils, trading the child's flesh for the power to rule. The demons claim their price piece by piece—forty-eight of them stripping away forty-eight parts of the infant—until what remains is left for dead, a broken remnant cast aside in a land torn apart by war. Yet the boy defies death. Taken in by a compassionate sage and fitted with a series of ingenious prosthetic devices, Hyakkimaru survives and grows into adulthood. When the truth of his origins finally comes to light, he realizes that everything stolen from him still rests with the demons who took it—and that reclaiming his body means confronting them all. Joined by Dororo, a resourceful young thief, the grown Hyakkimaru sets out across the ravaged country to destroy every devil that wronged him, winning back the pieces of himself one battle at a time. A striking modern retelling of Osamu Tezuka's classic Dororo.
