The Ravages of Time

The collapse of China’s illustrious Han dynasty nearly two millennia ago plunged the realm into an era of unrelenting chaos, where ambitious warlords vied for supremacy across a fractured land. From this crucible of conflict rose three formidable powers—Wei, Shu, and Wu—whose decades of intertwined warfare, fragile truces, and spectacular betrayals would come to define what history remembers as the Three Kingdoms period. It is a saga steeped in legendary heroism and stratagem, where oaths of brotherhood are sworn in blood only to be shattered by the cold calculus of power, and where the line between righteous loyalty and ruthless ambition blurs with every shifting tide of battle. Hong Kong artist Chan Mou breathes new life into this timeless epic through "The Ravages of Time," a masterful retelling that pivots away from the traditional triumvirate to center on the Sima clan—the unassuming yet tenacious house that would ultimately outmaneuver all rivals and stitch the warring kingdoms back into a single empire. Through their calculating eyes, readers witness the grand tapestry of history not as a simple contest of good versus evil, but as a intricate chess match of survival and cunning. With a sprawling cast of vividly realized figures, each driven by their own complex motives, and complemented by Chan Mou's striking, meticulously crafted artwork that fuses raw dynamism with haunting elegance, this rendition offers both a faithful homage and a startlingly fresh perspective on one of history's most enduring narratives.
