Hana to Hoshi

Hanai was an undefeated table tennis prodigy throughout junior high, dominating every tournament she entered. Her flawless record shatters when an unknown first-year student effortlessly defeats her. Unable to shake the psychological weight of that loss, Hanai spirals into a relentless losing streak. Determined to leave her competitive past behind, she enters high school resolved to quit the sport entirely and embrace a quiet, ordinary life. However, her plans are derailed on the very first day when she discovers that the same girl who ruined her winning streak attends her new school. To Hanai’s frustration, her former rival has also abandoned table tennis. The girl maintains a perpetually cold expression, leading Hanai to suspect she is arrogant, condescending, and deliberately trying to sabotage her fresh start. The tense dynamic shifts unexpectedly one afternoon when the girl falls asleep during class. As Hanai reaches over to wake her, the groggy girl gazes up at her with a soft smile and leans in, nearly kissing her. She later confesses that she was dreaming about Hanai. Convinced it is just another cruel joke, Hanai coldly dismisses her and walks away, unaware that the girl left behind lowers her gaze, quietly blushing.
