Tropic of the Sea

According to local legend, the coastal town of Amide owes its enduring prosperity to an ancient pact forged between a Shinto priest and a mermaid. For generations, this sacred agreement has ensured bountiful harvests from the sea, safeguarding the community's livelihood. The solemn duty of upholding the covenant has always fallen to the successive priests of the Yashiro family, who have faithfully honored the terms passed down through their lineage. However, the allure of the town's mythical heritage eventually draws unwanted attention. As word of the legend spreads, both opportunistic property developers and eager media outlets descend upon Amide, seeking to exploit its mystique for profit. Under mounting pressure, the current acting priest makes the fateful decision to yield to their demands, compromising the very tradition his ancestors swore to protect. Yosuke, the youngest member of the Yashiro family, has long harbored deep skepticism regarding the mermaid's existence, viewing the old tales as nothing more than folklore. Yet, his dismissive stance is soon challenged when a series of inexplicable and unsettling events begin to unfold throughout the town. Forced to confront phenomena that defy rational explanation, Yosuke must reevaluate everything he thought he knew about his family's legacy and the fragile balance between the human world and the sea.
