In a distant future, Japan has been ravaged by a catastrophic phenomenon known as the Rusty Wind. This relentless disaster has reduced much of the nation to a sprawling, desolate desert and left the remnants of civilization in ruins. For the roguish wanderer Bisco Akahoshi, the crisis becomes deeply personal when his mentor succumbs to the deadly rust infection. Refusing to accept this fate, Bisco sets out across the treacherous sandy wastelands in search of a legendary mushroom called the Rust Eater, said to be the only cure for the affliction. His perilous quest soon draws the company of Milo, a dashing young doctor with his own reasons for braving the wilds. Together, the unlikely duo must navigate an unforgiving landscape where survival is never guaranteed. Beyond the harsh elements themselves, they face constant threats from other desperate travelers roaming the wastes. To secure the mythical fungus and save Bisco’s teacher, both men will need to rely on their wits, courage, and each other if they hope to make it back alive.
