Ratakia no Majo

Ratakia no Majo is an anthology of seven humorous one-shot stories that traverse a diverse spectrum of genres, ranging from holiday satire to science fiction drama. The collection opens with a cynical Santa Claus enduring a particularly grueling Christmas Eve, followed by a young couple whose inaugural vacation takes a dark turn when they violate the cardinal rule of staying on the tourist path. In a tense wartime vignette, a soldier trapped in a minefield discovers his comrade is actually a robot, while elsewhere, a junior platoon captain must maintain unit cohesion on a distant planet as alien circumstances shift unexpectedly beneath her command. The remaining tales continue this eclectic exploration of isolation and unexpected encounters across varied settings. A lonely woman finds new companionship on a desolate desert world, and a young backpacker stumbles upon a suspiciously easy method to earn money in a city defined by avarice and strange geological formations. The titular story anchors the volume as a boy becomes an assistant to an enigmatic witch, tying together the anthology’s thematic focus on unconventional relationships and absurd predicaments. Each narrative delivers distinct comedic and dramatic tones, showcasing a versatile storytelling approach that balances lighthearted humor with moments of genuine tension and emotional resonance across speculative and contemporary backdrops.
