Twenty-six years ago, a tragedy struck the third-year classroom of Yamakita Middle School. A student named Misaki—an honors scholar, a gifted athlete, and a deeply charming girl beloved by her peers—died suddenly. Unable to accept her loss, her grieving classmates made an unsettling pact: they would carry on as though she were still alive among them, maintaining the illusion until graduation day. This desperate act of denial planted the seeds of a lingering darkness that would haunt the classroom for decades to come. In the spring of 1998, a boy named Kouichi Sakakibara transfers into this very same class, only to find himself engulfed in an atmosphere thick with unspoken dread. His classmates behave with a strange, fearful caution, bound by invisible rules he cannot yet comprehend. As Kouichi attempts to unravel the mystery surrounding him, his attention is drawn to one particular student: Mei Misaki. Beautiful yet profoundly aloof, she wears an eyepatch and spends her days sitting alone, quietly sketching pictures as if entirely detached from the world around her. Her eerie isolation and the classroom’s pervasive terror soon force Kouichi to confront a chilling reality hidden just beneath the surface of his new school life.
