Mao Hosaka has always lived her life on the periphery. Far from the glamorous social circles of her school, she is a girl who blends into the background, burdened by a home life that offers little in the way of conventional stability. Her father is a faded rock-and-roller whose best days are firmly behind him, leaving Mao to navigate her adolescence without much guidance or prestige. To make matters worse, her unruly hair constantly draws comparisons to Pippi Longstocking, marking her as an eccentric outsider rather than someone worthy of admiration. She remains entirely disconnected from the popular crowd, resigned to a quiet existence defined by awkwardness and invisibility. However, the delicate equilibrium of Mao’s unremarkable daily routine is shattered by the sudden appearance of Yokiko Hasekura. A striking beauty with flowing long hair, Yokiko commands attention effortlessly, standing in stark contrast to everything Mao represents. The arrival of this captivating new student introduces an unexpected dynamic into Mao's world, setting off a chain of events that promises to alter her reality. What begins as a simple shift in the social landscape quickly becomes a turning point, challenging Mao’s place in the shadows and forcing her to confront a life that will never be the same.
