Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari

Consumed by a deep-seated hatred for tsukumogami—spirits that inhabit physical objects—Kunato Hyoma is sent to live with Nagatsuki Botan in an effort to reshape his bitter perspective. Both individuals belong to a specialized clan tasked with using divine powers to return these otherworldly entities to their own realm, yet their personal histories with the spirits could not be more opposed. Hyoma’s animosity stems from profound tragedy, having been robbed of someone he deeply loved by the very beings his clan governs. In stark contrast, Botan’s life was once saved by these same vessels, leaving her with a compassionate understanding of their nature. Thrust together under one roof, the two must navigate their conflicting emotions and experiences. As they share their daily lives, the central question remains whether Botan’s gentle outlook can penetrate Hyoma’s hardened heart. Her challenge lies in helping him see beyond his grief and rage, potentially revealing a different side of the spirits he has sworn to despise.
