Record of the Glass Castle

For two decades, an entire family has lain suspended in cryosleep within the Glass Mansion, placed into stasis by the direct command of their patriarch. When the eldest son, Ichirou, finally awakens, he is devastated to discover that twenty years of his life have been stolen from him. Consumed by rage over this lost time, he resolves to exact a brutal revenge against the relatives he holds responsible for his fate. His youngest brother, Shirou, desperately attempts to intervene, but in doing so, he uncovers the terrifying reason cryosleep was outlawed nationwide years ago: a dangerous side effect that fundamentally alters those who endure it. As Ichirou descends further into darkness, Shirou faces the agonizing challenge of stopping him before the consequences become irreversible. In Record of the Glass Castle, Osamu Tezuka explores the pursuit of immortality and its devastating toll on humanity. Unlike his more widely known masterpieces such as Phoenix, this narrative approaches the theme through a far bleaker lens, portraying a world where the search for human decency feels nearly impossible amid tangled webs of hatred, greed, and lust. Contained within a single volume, this manga is essential reading for admirers of Tezuka’s darker works and those who appreciate stories that refuse to offer easy answers.
