Dream Toy Factory

Dream Toy Factory is a single-volume manga anthology comprised of thirteen distinct, surreal, and deeply unsettling one-shot stories. The collection explores a wide spectrum of the bizarre, ranging from dark reinterpretations of folklore to absurd speculative fiction. Among its most striking narratives is "Head Prolapse Elegy," which follows a female Pontianak—a mythological entity capable of detaching her head and internal organs from her body to take flight. Equally macabre is "Drafting a Water Goddess," set in a village that hosts a twisted local festival where bloated corpses, revered as water goddesses, are raced down a river stream. Other tales delve into surreal societal shifts and strange obsessions. "Closed Hospital" chronicles the inhabitants of an isolated medical facility that declares itself a sovereign state, leading patients and doctors to forge rigid social classes and bloodlines dictated by their specific illnesses or medical specializations. Meanwhile, "Mr. Urashima" centers on a descendant of the legendary figure from Japanese folklore who systematically rescues turtles as part of a larger, calculated scheme. Rounding out the volume are several eccentric entries, including "The How and What of Excretion in the Future," "The How and What of Future Sports," "The How and What of a Space War," and "The How and What of Earthquakes and Volcanoes," alongside shorter pieces like "White String," "Tale of Reversed Oddity," "Sweet Fashion Notes," and "White Teeth are Nice."
