Bremen II

By the year 2306, humanity has transformed from a species bound to Earth into a civilization spanning the cosmos. What began as tentative atmospheric exploration in the twentieth century accelerated dramatically over the following two hundred years. Breakthroughs in hyper-space navigation and gravity manipulation during the mid-twenty-second century triggered an unprecedented era of expansion, scattering humans and animals alike across the universe as society transitioned from an interplanetary existence to a truly intergalactic one. However, this rapid growth brought severe consequences. Echoing demographic crises first observed centuries earlier, birth rates plummeted as the relentless demands of maintaining a sprawling empire required every available person to work without pause. To ease the burden, B-level and C-level robots were deployed for simple tasks, though they lacked the capacity for complex procedures. The highly capable A-level models remained prohibitively expensive and scarce. Facing a critical labor shortage, a visionary doctor engineered a groundbreaking solution: humanoid animals possessing the ability to think, speak, and act exactly like humans. Against this vast cosmic backdrop unfolds the story of a Japanese captain commanding the starship Bremen, navigating the universe alongside her lively crew of these extraordinary humanoid animals.
