Bake no Kawa

The door should have remained locked, and the past should have stayed buried. Yet here she stands, his former lover, the one he distinctly remembers parting ways with, now moving through his home with an unsettling familiarity. The break-up was meant to be a clean cut, a definitive end to their chapter, but her sudden, inexplicable reappearance shatters that finality. She smiles, she touches his belongings, she pours tea as if the bitter words of their last conversation were never spoken—and that dissonance is precisely what chills him to the bone. Beneath the veneer of a tender reunion, a suffocating tension coils in the air. Every glance she casts his way feels heavy with meaning, every casual gesture a potential clue to the enigma standing in his kitchen. The protagonist is trapped in a waking nightmare where logic fails and memory betrays him, grappling with a horrifying question: is he losing his mind, or is there something profoundly wrong with her? As the mundane rituals of domesticity play out, the atmosphere grows thick with dread, for he knows with absolute certainty that this woman is hiding a devastating truth. Yet the closer he gets to unraveling her mystery, the deeper he sinks into a psychological maze where nothing is as it seems. Her secret lingers just beneath her skin, an invisible fault line threatening to split her calm facade wide open. In this claustrophobic space between what was and what inexplicably *is*, the protagonist must confront the terrifying possibility that the woman he once loved has returned not to rekindle their flame, but to consume everything he has left.
