Hikari no Machi

Perched atop a hill and bathed in constant sunlight, the City of Light appears to be an idyllic town. However, beneath its radiant surface lies a deeply obscured and troubling reality. Among its residents is Tasuku, a young boy who serves as a messenger for a mysterious organization that orchestrates suicides over the phone. His grim daily routine reflects the quiet desperation that permeates this seemingly bright community. Tasuku is not alone in his struggle. A cast of other young people fights simply to endure the hardships of everyday life in the city. Satoshi drifts aimlessly, bouncing from one temporary job to the next without ever finding stability. Momoko carries the heavy burden of being the daughter of a prostitute who ultimately abandoned her, leaving her to navigate the world entirely on her own. Then there is Hoichi, a youth perpetually entangled in shady dealings, including direct involvement with the very suicide group Tasuku serves. Despite his immersion in the town's dark underbelly, Hoichi clings to a singular, driving ambition. He works relentlessly to amass enough wealth to purchase the entire city, hoping to tear down its corrupt foundations and transform it back into the peaceful rural village where he was born.
