Fossil Island is an omnibus manga that weaves together the surreal dreams of three travelers who visit a mysterious destination known for its peculiar rock formations. The island is covered in strange stones shaped like human figures, and after encountering them, the visitors—a newspaper reporter named Rock, a songwriter named Kodama, and cartoonist Osamu Tezuka—each experience vivid, otherworldly dreams connected to what they have seen. In his dream, Rock finds himself working alongside the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. Together, they battle the phantom thief Lepin in a high-stakes pursuit of a hidden sculpture. Meanwhile, Tezuka’s dream takes him on a bizarre journey after he consumes ancient foods, transporting him into a surreal world where the natural order is inverted: humans possess animal brains while animals operate with human intelligence. Kodama’s vision proves equally fantastical. In her dream, Eros, the god of love, strips away her physical body, leaving her spirit to ascend directly to Heaven. Through these interconnected tales, Fossil Island explores the profound and unsettling power that the island's enigmatic stones hold over the minds of those who witness them.
