In the village of Zolfbrud, Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent enjoy a meal amidst a sense of unease as the residents hastily retreat indoors. As two opposing armies converge on the village, one led by a young girl and the other by a tribe of dragons, the ruler of the town attempts to deflect responsibility for the conflict onto a supposed dark legacy. However, the true reason for the battles is soon revealed: the ruler's daughter, Marlene, is leading the dragons in a dispute over her allowance. Lina agrees to assist the ruler, while Naga joins forces with Marlene.
